Dr. Sajjad Shami joined UMT as Professor in Electrical Engineering in Oct 2009. He served as Chairperson of the Electrical Engineering Department from Jan 2011 to May 2016.

He has over 28 years of national and international experience in university teaching as well as academic and industrial research. His doctoral work at University of Essex, UK (2000) involved application of evolutionary and agent-based methods for telecommunication transport network restoration.  He has served Motorola UK Ltd. at their European Headquarters in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK as 3G/UMTS Wireless Research Engineer.  He has also served as Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK for seven years. He has attended various training courses in London, Swindon and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Dr. Shami has also served on UET Lahore’s Electrical Engineering faculty for over eight years.

His research interests include wireless networks and devices, evolutionary computing, multi-agent systems, object-oriented design and programming, renewable energy and smart grid. Dr Shami has authored several international journal and conference research papers, see  ( He also holds an international granted patent in 3G telecoms (

He is currently on panels of Punjab Public Service Commission, Lahore; Quaid-e-Azam Library, Lahore; U.E.T. Lahore (External Examiner MSEE Thesis); ICT R&D Fund Islamabad (External Evaluator) and HEC PERIDOT 2016 (Reviewer).
